Swimming with manatees

Enjoy the unique manatee swim experience privilege

Swimming and snorkeling with the manatees in the spring-fed King’s Bay Wildlife Refuge located in Crystal River, FL

Manatees roam the waters of southeast Florida from April through October—but when things get a bit chilly, they head to places like Crystal River, where the temperatures remain pretty consistent throughout the year.

Here you will meet the world’s largest population of endangered manatee during the winter season, and even a small population the warm months. Having the chance to encounter these curious, gentle giants in their natural habitat is an adventure you will never forget!

Your manatee encounter tour will begin at the full-service tour facility, where you will be educated about the animals and get all the tips and advice for your manatee snorkel tour to make the most of your day. You will be taught all you need to know about  ‘passive interaction’, as this ensures that the animals enjoy the experience as much as you will !

You will embark the journey with a captain and his covered pontoon boat certified by the Coast Guard. Manatees can be difficult to see. You may see a swirl on the surface caused by the manatee when it dives or you may only hear the manatee when it surfaces to breathe. But your captain know the area like his backpocket and will take you to all the right spots where these gentle sea cows are, and on the way you will see birds, fish and Florida wildlife abound. Submerge yourself in the manatee’s world!

It may not seem warm when you jump into a freshwater spring, but the water temperatures remain around 70 degrees, which is perfect for manatees in Florida

Seeing a large number of Florida manatees in one place is an amazing experience, but just remember manatees are there for survival. So when you are on your manatee swim tour, always remember your "Manatee Manners"— look, but don't touch.

3 hours
Manatee tour from start to finish. Masks, snorkels, and wetsuits included. Bottled water included on board.
This encounter with manatees is perfect for everyone 3 years old and above and all level of snorkel experience with this friendly animal. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and very young children must understand enough to be calm in order to not scare the manatees away. Children should be comfortable in the water and parents should stay close at all times for safety.
It's very important to have realistic expectations when it comes to a wild animal encounter! In the cooler weather the manatees migrate to this area; when the weather warms they can move about going wherever they want! These are wild animals and we can not control their migration..The early mornings tend to be the best time to find the manatee and best chance of seeing them near the springs. It is simple, cold weather = many manatee; warmer weather=lower manatee counts. Even seeing a few manatee is a phenomenal adventure! ‘Manatee season’ is November through February
